WELCOME TO PHYSICS!

In this class, students will learn about the fundamental physical laws that govern how their world works.

Our explorations will involve hands-on laboratory investigations and in-depth computer simulations, as well as traditional classroom instruction.

FIRST SEMESTER

Our journey begins with the study of science practices and how we measure things in the universe. We then move swiftly into Newton's Laws and how forces affect objects.

Students will later find themselves engaged in kinematics, which focuses on the movement of objects through space and time. By mid-winter, we will be exploring the details of central concepts like gravity and electrostatics.

SECOND SEMESTER

In the spring semester, students will finish their study of classical physics with units on energy, work, power, and efficiency.

We will then turn our attention to current electricity and magnetism, and then explore waves and sound. This follows a natural progression into studying electromagnetic radiation.

We conclude the year by doing a short project-based unit on momentum, which involves collisions of objects.
